Happy Lunar New Year! 🐍 🧨

We read the most charming Sweet & Sour newsletter from our dear friends @eatmamahuhu this morning. Somehow, 5 years have lapsed since they opened their first restaurant. Fastforward, we have now done three Mamahuhu restaurants together <3.

A quick trip down memory lane, we’ve pulled some old mood board imagery, compiled photos from Clement, Mill Valley, and Noe Valley restaurants, and some of the branding inspiration that the design process started with (so many years ago now).

May the Year of the Snake bring you prosperity, wisdom, creativity, and joy.

Keeping our eye out for a little extra cheer this dark season. I love it every time I pass this project -- the hot pink always brings a smile to my face.⁣
⁣
It has felt particularly dark as we approach the winter solstice, so I checked sunrise and sunset times. I do not recommend doing this. 🌚 Just know that it's about to start getting better, little by little every morning and night. ⁣

As the rain continues, we are so happy our client @park.padel has 6 indoor Padel courts in their newest location. Quickly, we’re watching the space transform into a community with yoga, pasta dinners, family nights, and so many events to compliment their courts, warm-up areas, and wind-down areas.

Can’t wait to share more photos of the locker rooms soon.

You may never guess that this isn’t the original Primary Bedroom. In the Russian Hill House, we bumped out the bedroom to gain some additional square footage, and added a small balcony to capture more daylight and a stolen view of the lush courtyard below. ⁣

⛏We’ve broken ground! The landscape for our ground-up Point Reyes project is being graded for the complex of two homes and a series of supporting buildings.

Nestled tightly against the landscape, we worked closely with the two families to locate the buildings in response to views, prevailing winds, daylight, watershed, and existing trees. This is an exciting construction milestone for Studio BBA, our client and the contractor. 🎉

Mazarine Coffee exemplifies a passion for coffees from around the world and a pursuit of the perfect cup, and pays homage to its namesake Bibliotheque Mazarine—the oldest public library in France—with communal space for reflection, inquiry and interactions. Visually, the patterning of tiled alcoves in the café subtly mimics the rhythm of library shelving.

Hidden behind a closed door, restrooms have a chance to take on extra personality and show a different side without blowing the budget. Be it a jewel of a powder bath, or a large restaurant with communal hand sinks.

Akin to modern-day Hong Kong alleyways that frame their destinations, Studio BBA moved the entrance from Grant Street’s bustle to the cloak of Waverly Street. The new and more intimate entrance teases guests with a glimpse into the light-filled dining room beyond and it’s repurposed lotus chandeliers.

A photoshoot at the end of a project feels like the cherry on top for documenting a job completed. 🍒

We completed this project at the end of 2016, and now the landscape has fully matured. We’re tempted to ask our sweet client if we can come in again because this yard is now an absolute backyard oasis here in San Francisco. 🌱
